Blackwater Outdoor Experiences: New Paths for Adolescents and Their Families

Program Overview
Page 2
Recognizing that adolescents' issues are seldom separated from the larger family system, the final phase focuses on parent/child interaction. During the final weekend, parents are involved in participation oriented activities and initiatives and multifamily therapy groups. Through a combination of experiences and intense action oriented therapy, the families are emotionally potent and prepared for potential catharsis and healing to take place. As a conclusion to the program, Dr. George Bright and staff counselors meet with each family individually and share their recommendations and suggestions for follow-up treatment. A written report is then compiled that details the adolescent's participation and further clinical needs.

"...promotes a tremendous amount of group interaction and offer many occasions for both individual and group problem solving"
The staff at Blackwater Outdoor Experiences has come to recognize the value of experiential programs as a powerful therapeutic modality for change. The integration of outdoor activities, daily therapies, specialized groups, and parental involvement creates an environment conducive to self-growth and change. Personal growth and change are then supported through ongoing adolescent and parental aftercare groups following completion of the program.
