Program Overview

Recognizing that adolescents' issues are seldom separated from the larger family system, the final phase focuses on parent/child interaction. During the final weekend, parents are involved in participation oriented activities and initiatives and multifamily therapy groups. Through a combination of experiences and intense action oriented therapy, the families are emotionally potent and prepared for potential catharsis and healing to take place. As a conclusion to the program, Dr. George Bright and staff counselors meet with each family individually and share their recommendations and suggestions for follow-up treatment. A written report is then compiled that details the adolescent's participation and further clinical needs. |

The staff at Blackwater Outdoor Experiences has come to recognize the value of experiential programs as a powerful therapeutic modality for change. The integration of outdoor activities, daily therapies, specialized groups, and parental involvement creates an environment conducive to self-growth and change. Personal growth and change are then supported through ongoing adolescent and parental aftercare groups following completion of the program. |
